We have compiled a bibliography with about 150 texts about Hessenberg and his work. It includes not only musicological and critical essays, but also, e.g., interviews, reviews on first performances, articles in relevant reference books, and monographs in musical history that mention Kurt Hessenberg only in passing.

The bibliography is provided in three different forms:

> alphabetical (by author),

> chronological, and

> systematical (by type of text).

The best survey of the literature is no doubt provided by the systematical bibliography, while the one in alphabetical order is best suited for resolving the abbreviated references given on this website (for example, “Cahn 1990a”).
